Government. I really want to like it. I just can't. I've come to the decision that modern government is a parasite that exists for its own purposes and does little or nothing to serve society any more. I see it like parasites that alter the behaviour of their host in order to serve the parasite, to the detriment of the host.

There are trematodes that make crabs easy prey for birds, fungi that make flies head for the windows, bugs that make ants climb grass stems to get eaten by birds, things that make slugs stay out in daylight. Many parasites subtly or grossly affect their hosts. Some are dramatic (rabies), others very subtle (toxoplasmosis). Modern 'big' Government is a subtle parasite with grossly damaging effects.

Here are my examples:

today, I was stopped by a rent-a-cop security guard who demanded to know the purpose of photographs I was taking of the building he guarded. It was a gym, and he was a moron who has no doubt read the furore about the new (idiotic) law on photography and police officers on anti-terrorist duty and come to a completely wrong conclusion.

government passed a law to make its own life easier, with no consideration of the effect on the host - our civic society, which has a right to know who is enforcing the law, and a freedom to photograph pretty well anything outside an MOD exclusion zone.

I have passed riot police in balaclavas with their badge covered by straps and slings. Britain now has, effectively, anonymous police officers who can inflict violent force on people who will be unable to identify them afterwards.

government relaxed laws on police identity to make their lives easier, but did not consider the host civic.

we have nearly 700 MPs, none of who really represent their constituency and all of whom really represent their party whips.

government simply forgot that it represented the people of the country, and put in a series of internal controls (the Whips) who make our politicians do their bidding

the number of MP's goes up, not down. Why? Because, I suggest, they are a self-preserving parasite that cares nothing for the cost they impose on us. Compare and contrast any private sector body where the introduction of modern working practices, IT and modern comms has resulted in leaner, more effective and more efficient management. Has our government become more efficient? No. It just recruited more parasites to its cause.

government passes laws to mask its own activities from the host - reminding me of the way in which malaria parasites change their coats to hide from the immune system...

the credit crunch was - wholly or partly - caused by governments that encouraged bubble like growth in revenues from the financial sector and credit fueled spending in order to drive up tax revenues to fund the birth and nurture of yet more government parasites. Now the crash has come, the parasite is busy sucking even more life out of its struggling host in a bizarre feast on carrion as it mortgages our children's earnings to support ill-thought-through expenditure and yet more expansion of the government parasite population.

I am sure you have more examples. Post them here.

Now, everyone, is it not time we innoculated ourselves against this infection, and got on with living a clean life, free of parasites?
